An Overview of Son-rise in Africa

What is needed?

God has abundantly blessed the ministries of ABWE around the world. Tens of thousands have come to know Christ as their Saviour, and thousands of churches have been established to the glory of God. The church-planting ministry of ABWE is committed to establishing churches led by national pastors.  God has graciously enabled the mission to see this goal realized on most of the fields of the world.  Yet, one of the pressing needs facing ABWE in its present year of ministry is Theological Education for national pastors.  A local church is only as strong as its leadership.  In order for churches to grow "in the stature of the fullness of Christ" and continue in effective evangelism and church planting, leadership training is critical.

Where is the need the greatest?

Among the nations of the world where pastoral training is needed, there is none greater than those of West Africa, In Ghana, Togo and Benin there are 30 million people and over 100 ABWE local churches. Yet there are only 3 part time ABWE Bible Institute/College centres.

GHANA: A population of 19 million people.  Tribal languages and English are predominant. Education is taught in the English language.  ABWE established the Mathetes Baptist Bible College located in the town of Ho.
TOGO: A population of 5 million people.  Tribal languages and French are predominant. Education is taught in the French language.  The 60+ churches started by ABWE host a Pastoral Bible Institute in several locations throughout Togo.
BENIN: A population of 5 million people.  Tribal languages and French are predominant.  ABWE has partnered with pastoral-trained church leaders for Benin in Togo in the past.

Who are we?

In 2007 Earl and Kathi were appointed as the Theological Education Representatives for ABWE Canada. Although this expands their ministry across Canada by representing the ABWE's world theological educational focus, they are still involved heavily in curriculum development and teaching throughout the ABWE mission world.
